The purpose of this study is to explain the success factors of business ventures in creative industries. By analyzing three types of festivals in three countries through the perspectives of entrepreneurial success, internationalization, and management, the paper explains how business ventures in creative industries from developing economies mobilized key factors to succeed. The study particularly focuses on identifying the types of partners, channels, and strategies that entrepreneurs in creative industries mobilized to achieve international success. Using data from publicly available online sources to categorize important factors for success, the paper argues that social capital-based view may explain success in creative industries better than resource-based or knowledge-based views although the combination of the three perspectives is deemed necessary. Founders’ personal social capital (connections and networks) appeared particularly important for entrepreneurial success in creative industries. The importance of social capital is perceivable in national and international success and is also applicable, to some degree, to the contexts of both developing and developed economies.

This study draws from the literature on workplace diversity, cultural intelligence, and creativity to examine the relationship between diversity climate and employees’ behaviors. With data collected from three multinational enterprise subsidiaries that operated in China for over 25 years, this study reveals that employees’ metacognitive cultural intelligence is positively related to their perceived diversity climate, leading to creative behavior and citizenship altruism behavior. In addition, this study examines an important interpersonal factor that is sensitive to the Confucius culture, harmony, and finds it directly impact motivational cultural intelligence. The mediating effect of harmony on the relationship between motivational cultural intelligence and employees’ altruism behaviors is also tested. This study contributes to the literature by investigating the organizational mechanisms underlying the role of cultural intelligence on employee behaviors in culturally diverse workplaces. Practical implications are also discussed.

This article aims to analyze the influence of the academic and socio-institutional environment on the entrepreneurial intention of students in Benin. Using the snowball sampling technique, data collection was carried out based on a questionnaire distributed to a sample of 325 students from public and private universities in Benin. The estimation of the ordered logistic regression model with STATA 13 shows that the entrepreneurial intention of students in Benin is characterized by entrepreneurial education, innovation, and risk propensity. Moreover, unlike government support, variables related to perceived cultural norms and social legitimacy of entrepreneurship negatively moderate the effect of entrepreneurship education on students’ entrepreneurial intention in Benin. As a contribution to the literature, this paper shows the crucial role of students’ education in the acquisition of entrepreneurial skills that enhance entrepreneurial capacity and lead them to develop skills that help them start businesses.

This study explores and emphasises the utility of non-financial remittances to Africa’s developmental aspirations and the importance of critical thinking in the management of diaspora matters by agencies of government saddled with the diaspora affairs of developing countries in Africa. Drawing on the literature review and using the Socratic approach, the reflective analysis of this study demonstrates that greater value could be extracted from Africans’ diaspora remittances if more attention is focused on non-financial remittances and the remitters’ wellbeing. Through the exploration of the philosophical bases of the remittance processes, the study draws out non-financial remittances of ideas, skill, knowledge, technology, and innovation as a preferred and more valuable form of remittances with real effects on Africa’s economic growth and development. The study contributes by deepening our knowledge of non-financial remittances to the socio-economic development of less advanced countries, particularly in Africa.
