L’approche du service social en don vivant de rein au Québec

Résumé

La travailleuse sociale oeuvrant en milieu hospitalier peut être amenée à accompagner les personnes atteintes d’insuffisance rénale qui sont admissibles au don vivant de rein et leurs proches dans leur trajectoire de soins. En 2019, dans le but de développer les interventions en travail social dans cette spécialité en santé, le Comité de travailleuses sociales en don vivant de rein au Québec a été mis en place. Ce comité a élaboré un groupe de discussion pour le receveur potentiel et ses proches afin de les soutenir dans l’identification d’un donneur vivant. De plus, l’évaluation du fonctionnement social a aussi été développée pour identifier les facteurs de protection et de risque pour le donneur vivant. Le but cet article est donc de présenter l’apport de la travailleuse sociale en don vivant de rein au Québec.

Abstract

Social workers active in a hospital setting may be called upon to work, during the course of their care trajectory, with persons who are suffering from renal failure and are eligible for a living kidney donation, as well as with their loved ones. In 2019, in order to develop social work interventions in this healthcare speciality, the “Comité de travailleuses sociales en don vivant de rein au Québec” (Committee of Québec social workers in living kidney donations) was established. This committee put together a discussion group for the potential recipients and their loved ones, to support them in identifying a living donor. A social functioning assessment was also developed to identify protective and risk factors for the living donor. The purpose of this article, therefore, is to present the contribution of social workers in the field of living kidney donation in Québec.
