RÉSUMÉ
Au Québec nordique, les relevés géophysiques pour l'étude du pergélisol ont débuté en 1953, lors de la construction du chemin de fer reliant Schefferville à Sept-Îles. Une entente entre le Conseil national de la recherche du Canada et la Compagnie Iron Ore du Canada a ensuite favorisé l'emploi de mesures géothermiques. Dès 1962, les sondages de résistivité électrique ont servi à déterminer la répartition et l'épaisseur du pergélisol. La Compagnie Iron Ore et les chercheurs de l'université McGiII ont ensuite employé d'autres méthodes: polarisation spontanée et provoquée, électromagnétisme, infrarouge thermique et diagraphies. D'autres groupes, actifs ailleurs au Québec au cours des années 70. ont mis à profit différentes méthodes: mesures et modèles thermiques, géoradar, géocaméra. La géophysique au Centre d'études nordiques a débuté en 1973. en Hudsonie, et s'est poursuivie dans une dizaine d'autres sites. On a surtout employé la résistivité électrique accompagnée de contrôles thermiques dans le mollisol et de forages superficiels. Les développements techniques les plus importants réalisés au Centre d'études nordiques, liés aux composantes microélectroniques et aux systèmes d'acquisition de données, ont eu lieu au site expérimental de Kangiqsualujjuaq où les résultats de plusieurs méthodes sont comparés et où de nouvelles approches sont évaluées.
ABSTRACT
In northern Québec geophysical investigations for the study of permafrost started in 1953 during the construction of the railway linking Schefferville to Sept-Îles. A little later, a joint venture by the National Research Council of Canada and the Iron Ore Company of Canada initiated the first geothermal measurements. In 1962, electrical resistivity soundings were used to determine the spatial distribution and thickness of permafrost. The Iron Ore Company of Canada and researchers of McGiII University used other geophysical methods, including self and induced polarization, electromagnetism, thermal infrared and geophysical logs. During the 70's, other groups active elsewhere in Québec started using different geophysical methods such as geothermal measurements and models, ground probing radar and geocamera. At the Centre d'études nordiques, permafrost geophysics was first used in 1973 in the Hudson Bay region and later extended to some ten other localities. Electrical resistivity complemented with thermal controls in the active layer and shallow drillings were mainly used. The most important technical developments at the Centre d'études nordiques are related to microelectronic components and automated data acquisition systems; the experiments are being carried out at Kangigsualujjuaq where the results of different methods are compared and new approaches evaluated.

Im nordischen Québec haben die geophysikalischen Erhebungen zum Studium des Dauerfrostbodens 1953 begonnen, wàhrend des Baus der Eisenbahnlinie zwischen Schefferville und Sept-Îles. Ein Abkommen zwischen dem Conseil National de Ia Recherche du Canada und der Firma Iron Ore du Canada hat anschliefiend die Verwendung geothermischer Messungen begunstigt. Seit 1962 haben Untersuchungen des elektrischen Leitungswiderstands dazu gedient, die Verteilung und die Dicke des Dauerfrostbodens zu bestimmen. Die Firma Iron Ore du Canada und Forscher der McGiII-Universitàt haben danach andere Methoden verwendet: spontané und induzierte Polarisierung, Elektromagnetismus, thermisches lnfrarot und geophysikalische Berichte. Andere Gruppen, die in einem anderen Teil Québecs im Laufe der siebziger Jahre tâtig waren, haben verschiedene Methoden genutzt: thermische Messungen und Modelle, Georadar, Geokamera. Am Centre d'études nordiques wurde 1973 zum ersten Mal die Geophysik eingesetzt im Gebiet der Hudson Bay und spàter in zehn anderen Gebieten. Man hat vor allem den elektrischen Leitungswiderstand verwendet zusammen mit thermischen Kontrollen im Auftauboden und mit Oberflàchen-Bohrungen. Die wichtigsten technischen Entwicklungen, die im Centre d'études nordiques realisiert wurden, sind verbunden mit mikroelektronischen Komponenten und den Datenverarbeitungssystemen; die Expérimente sind bei Kangiqsuallujjuaq durchgefuhrt worden, wo die Ergebnisse von mehreren Methoden verglichen und neue Methoden beurteilt werden.
