Vers une poéthique acadienne : l’exemple d’Herménégilde Chiasson

Résumé

Voulant préciser la portée existentielle de la notion de « poétique », Jean-Claude Pinson déclare : « Il ne s’agit plus tant que la vie soit, par la littérature, mieux connue ; il s’agit qu’elle soit “mieux” vécue. » Autrement dit, comment la poésie peut-elle influer sur la réalité vécue, voire changer celle-ci en vraie vie (Rimbaud) ? C’est sous cet angle que Michael Brophy examinera l’émergence de la poésie acadienne comme action et pratique au cours des années 1970. Cependant, pour tester l’hypothèse de la « longue décennie », il faudrait aussi en déterminer les limites. À cet égard, il privilégiera l’oeuvre d’Herménégilde Chiasson, oeuvre de longue haleine, qui accompagnera l’éclosion de nouvelles voix poétiques dans les décennies suivantes, alors que, dès la première parution en 1974, elle pose la question de la fin ainsi que celle du séjour, de l’ethos, de l’être de finitude : Mourir à Scoudouc. Ce titre, qui insiste sur le travail du négatif, est déjà incontestablement prospectif plutôt que rétrospectif, le choix du toponyme ne servant qu’à faire valoir par homophonie l’interrogatif « où ? » qui s’y joue en filigrane.

Abstract

Seeking to clarify the existential import of the notion of « poetics », Jean-Claude Pinson declares: « It is no longer so much a question of life being better known through literature, but rather of being “better” lived. » In other words, how can poetry influence lived reality and even transform it into true life (Rimbaud)? It is from this angle that Michael Brophy will examine the emergence of Acadian poetry as action and practice in the course of the 1970s. However, in order to test the hypothesis of the “long decade”, its limits must also be determined. In this respect, he will feature the work of Herménégilde Chiasson, a far-reaching body of work that will accompany the advent of new poetic voices in the following decades, but that begins in 1974 by exploring the question of the end as well as matters of habitation, of ethos, of being framed by finitude: Mourir à Scoudouc. This title, which focuses on the work of the negative, is, from the outset, indisputably prospective rather than retrospective, the choice of toponym promoting through homophony the play of the interrogative « où ? ».
