My Father’s Daughter: Family Traits and Family Folklore La fille de mon père : traits de famille et folklore familial La hija de mi padre: rasgos familiares y folclore familiar 我父亲的女儿：家庭特征和家庭传说

Abstract

This personal reflection considers how stories that we share within our families not only inform (and define) worldview, but also “family traits” that may be transmitted through the telling of these stories or anecdotes. In particular, I consider how my father’s approaches and attitudes towards work and leisure were conveyed to me not only through stories, but also by observation—attitudes and ways that in turn shaped my own.

Cette réflexion personnelle examine comment les histoires que nous partageons au sein de nos familles influencent (et définissent) non seulement notre vision du monde, mais aussi les « traits familiaux » qui peuvent être transmis par le récit de ces histoires ou anecdotes. J’examine plus particulièrement comment les approches et les attitudes de mon père envers le travail et les loisirs m’ont été transmises, non seulement par les récits, mais aussi par l’observation ― des attitudes et des façons de faire qui ont ensuite façonné les miennes.

Resumen

Esta reflexión personal examina cómo las historias que compartimos en nuestras familias influyen (y definen) no solo nuestra visión del mundo, sino también los rasgos familiares que se transmiten a través de estas historias o anécdotas. En concreto, examino cómo me transmitieron los enfoques y actitudes de mi padre hacia el trabajo y el ocio, no solo a través de la narración, sino también a través de la observación: actitudes y formas de hacer las cosas que posteriormente moldearon las mías.
