Résumé
Il paraît surprenant à première vue de se référer à un concept aussi ancien que l’Antemurale Christianitatis (le rempart du christianisme) pour analyser la politique étrangère contemporaine d’un État européen. Pourtant, en Pologne, comme dans les autres pays qui se sont vu attribuer ce titre, l’idée de jouer le rôle de « rempart du christianisme » en Europe s’est enracinée dans les mentalités et continue d’apparaître ici et là, dans les discours politiques, les débats publics et les éditoriaux journalistiques. Partant du principe que le symbole d’une Pologne « rempart du christianisme » constituait, au-delà de son caractère religieux, l’expression de la position géostratégique du pays dans l’Europe du XVe siècle, et considérant la longévité de cette image dans le récit national polonais, cet article propose d’évaluer la pertinence du concept d’Antemurale Christianitatis ou Przedmurze chrześcijaństwa en polonais dans l’analyse de la place et du rôle de la Pologne contemporaine en Europe.

Abstract
It may be surprising at first sight to refer to such an old concept, the Antemurale Christianitatis, to analyse the contemporary politics of a European state. Yet, in Poland, as in other countries that have been attributed this label, the idea of being the defensive wall of Christianity has taken root in their national consciousness and continues to appear here and there, in political speeches, public debates, and journalistic editorials. Based on the idea that the term “Poland, bulwark of Christianity” was, beyond its religious aspect, the expression of Poland’s geostrategic position in 15th century Europe, and considering its longevity in the Polish national narrative, this paper aims to assess the relevance of the Antemurale Christianitatis or Przedmurze chrześcijaństwa in Polish in the analysis of the place and role of contemporary Poland on the European continent.
