Résumé
Les écrits sur les relations canado-américaines négligent les travaux sur la géo-économie, pour ce qui est de comprendre l’impopularité de Donald Trump au Canada durant son mandat à la Maison-Blanche. Définissant la géo-économie comme l’importation de la logique du conflit militaire dans le vocabulaire et la mise en oeuvre des politiques économiques et commerciales d’un État (Luttwak 1990), nous nous inspirons des travaux sur la « géopolitique tabloïde » de François Debrix (2008) pour qualifier la politique de Trump à l’égard du Canada de « géo-économie tabloïde ». Après avoir énoncé les principaux piliers de cette doctrine, dont la tendance de Trump à s’inspirer des procédés d’expression et du style des journaux à sensation pour décrire les enjeux canado-américains, nous montrons comment le milliardaire transforme la relation canado-américaine en important à la Maison-Blanche cette vision du Canada qui ne disparaîtra peut-être pas entièrement après qu’il ait quitté la présidence.

Abstract
The literature on Canada-us relations neglects works on geo-economics to understand Donald Trump’s unpopularity in Canada during his term in the White House. Defining geo-economics as the importation of the logic of military conflict into the vocabulary and implementation of a state’s economic and trade policies (Luttwak 1990), we draw on the work on “tabloid geopolitics” by François Debrix (2008) to characterize Trump’s policy towards Canada as “tabloid geo-economics.” After describing the main pillars of this doctrine, including Trump’s tendency to use the language and style of tabloid newspapers to describe Canada-us issues, we show how the billionaire transforms Canada-us relations by importing into the White House a vision of Canada that may not disappear entirely after he steps down as President.
