Abstract
This special issue features an interview with Stan Knight, the developer of Inspector in a Box, a knowledge training tool designed to improve housing quality and inspection capacity in northern and Indigenous communities. Knight’s work reflects the importance of practical innovation and community engagement in addressing the systemic challenges of northern housing. In preparing this piece, Knight met with Shelagh McCartney for a conversation about his experiences with topics ranging from construction standards to local capacity building. By situating technical expertise within broader discussions of sovereignty, sustainability, and community control, his perspective underscores how tools for knowledge transfer can contribute to more just and resilient housing futures in the North.

Résumé
Ce numéro spécial présente une entrevue avec Stan Knight, le concepteur de Inspector in a Box, un outil de formation destiné à améliorer la qualité des logements et les capacités d’inspection dans les communautés du nord et autochtones. Le travail de Knight met en lumière l’importance de l’innovation pratique et de l’engagement communautaire pour relever les défis systémiques liés au logement dans le Nord. Pour préparer cet article, Monsieur Knight a rencontré Shelagh McCartney afin de discuter de ses expériences sur des sujets variés, incluant les normes de construction et le renforcement des capacités locales. En replaçant l’expertise technique dans le cadre de discussions plus larges sur la souveraineté, la durabilité et le contrôle communautaire, son point de vue souligne comment les outils pour mobiliser des connaissances peuvent contribuer à un avenir plus juste et plus résilient pour le logement dans le Nord.
