Résumé
À la fin du XIXe siècle, la famille de Félix-Gabriel Marchand, journaliste et homme politique, organise des représentations théâtrales au profit d’oeuvres de charité, à Saint-Jean, Québec ou Ottawa. Pour ces représentations, Félix- Gabriel lui-même et sa fille Joséphine écrivent plusieurs proverbes dramatiques qui, une fois publiés, sont diffusés largement et repris dans les autres régions du pays. À partir du cas des Marchand, dont l’activité s’étend sur trois générations, le présent article étudie la pratique du théâtre de société à la fois comme forme de socialité spécifique et comme esthétique particulière pratiquée par les amateurs.

Abstract
At the end of the nineteenth century, the family of Félix-Gabriel Marchand, journalist and politician, organized theatrical performances for charity in Saint-Jean, Québec or Ottawa. For these performances, Félix-Gabriel himself and his daughter Josephine wrote several dramatic proverbs which, once published, circulated widely and were restaged in other parts of the country. Based on the case of the Marchands, whose activity spans three generations, this article examines the practice of society theatre both as a specific form of sociality and as a particular æsthetic practiced by amateurs.
