Abstracts
Résumé
Un nombre grandissant de théoriciens et de praticiens discutent de l’impact du genre et de la race sur la profession et l’étude de l’architecture. Les questions liées aux relations entre le milieu bâti et l’orientation sexuelle et l’identité de genre restent cependant particulièrement peu étudiées, peut-être en raison de leur relative invisibilité et des conséquences discriminatoires moins clairement identifiables; elles sont par ailleurs complètement négligées par la théorie du design dans le monde francophone. Cet article remédie en partie à la situation.

Note biographique
Olivier Vallerand est architecte et enseignant. Il a obtenu son doctorat en architecture à l’Université McGill, où il a étudié les critiques queers et féministes de l’espace domestique. Après avoir travaillé dans des firmes d’architecture à Washington, DC, Los Angeles et Québec, il développe depuis 2007 une pratique d’installations dans l’espace public au sein du collectif 1x1x1 laboratoire de création et enseigne à l’École d’architecture de l’Université Laval. Ses travaux ont été publiés entre autres dans le Journal of Architectural Education, Interiors : Design | Architecture | Culture, Inter, art actuel et dans le volume Sexuality de la collection Whitechapel Documents of Contemporary Art. Il contribue aussi régulièrement à la revue Canadian Architect.
