Abstract
Canadian federal officials assumed women would be uninterested in paid work after World War Two. "I want to get a post-war job," while a familiar refrain, found little accommodation in the post-war regime of the Canadian welfare state. Instead, government officials, women and men alike, carefully balanced liberal rights discourses alongside the priority of female domesticity.

Les agents responsables du gouvernement fédéral ont assumé que les femmes ne seraient pas intéressées à un travail rémunéré après la Seconde Guerre mondiale. "Je veux avoir un poste d'après-guerre," quoiqu' un refrain familier, trouva peu d'accommodement dans le régime d'après-guerre du bien-être canadien. Les agent responsables, hommes et femmes, ont plutôt équilibré soigneusement des discours sur les droits libéraux et en même temps la priorité de la domesticité des femmes.
