Résumé

Au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, le Parti nationalistechinois (Kuomintang) prend le contrôle de Taïwan avant des’y replier durablement à partir de 1949. Sonadministration se glisse dans les structures établies par legouvernement colonial japonais (1895–1945) et les institutionstelles que l’école s’inscrivent désormaisdans le service public de la République de Chine. Les pratiquessportives sont inscrites dans l’éducation publique et sontenvisagées comme des leviers de l’intégration despopulations locales au dispositif colonial, principalement cellesd’origine austronésienne. Les performances des jeunesathlètes austronésiens, notamment dans les tournoisinternationaux, sont autant de pierres apportées àl’édification d’un État pluriethniquedominé par la majorité chinoise han. Dans cettecontribution, il sera question d’observer et d’analysercomment les Austronésiens formosans, qui disposent depuis 1994du statut d’Autochtones, détournent et seréapproprient les pratiques sportives dans le cadre du servicepublic de l’éducation — sport etéducation étant ici compris comme faisant partie du biencommun — pour négocier leur position au sein del’État taïwanais et faire face aux politiquesassimilatrices du pouvoir central. Comment se sont historiquementstructurés des rapports de force et de domination entre lespopulations austronésiennes de Taïwan et lesautorités centrales, notamment à travers le sport ?En quoi les stéréotypes, moraux et physiques, quicaractérisent négativement les athlètesautochtones sont-ils devenus un levier de leurs revendications ?En quoi la réappropriation des sports par les Autochtonesest-elle une forme d’accession au bien commun et un vecteur de lareproduction des sociétés austronésiennes au seind’un espace public dans lequel elles sontgénéralement marginalisées ?

Abstract

In the aftermath of the Second World War, the Chinese Nationalist Party(Kuomintang) took control of Taiwan, before falling back therepermanently from 1949. Its administration slipped into the structuresestablished by the Japanese colonial government (1895–1945) andinstitutions such as schools are now a part of the public service ofthe Republic of China. Sports practices are included in publiceducation and are considered as levers for the integration of the localpopulations in the colonial system, mainly those of Austronesianorigin. The performances of young Austronesian athletes, especially ininternational tournaments, are stones in the construction of amultiethnic state dominated by the Han-Chinese majority. In thiscontribution, it will be a question of observing and analyzing how theAustronesians Formosans, who have the status of Indigenous since 1994,divert and reclaim sports practices within the framework of the publiceducational service—sport and education being understood here aspart of the common good—to negotiate their position in theTaiwanese state and face the assimilative policies of the centralgovernment. How relations of power and domination has been historicallyframed between Austronesian peoples of Taiwan and the centralauthorities, especially through sport? How the moral and physicalstereotypes which have negatively characterized Indigenous athletesbecame a lever for their claims? In what way is the re-appropriation ofsports by Indigenous people a form of access to the common good and avector of the reproduction of Austronesian societies within a publicspace in which they are generally marginalized?

Tras la Segunda Guerra mundial, el Partido nacionalista chino(Kuomintang) tomó el control de Taiwán antes de retirarsecompletamente a partir de 1949. Su administración sedeslizó en estructuras establecidas por el gobiernojaponés (1895–1945) y las instituciones como la escuelafueron inscritas en la educación pública y vistas comomecanismos de integración social de las poblaciones locales aldispositivo colonial, principalmente aquellas de origen austronesio.Los resultados de los jóvenes atletas austronesios,principalmente en los torneos internacionales, se convirtieron en lasbases para la edificación de un Estado pluriétnicodominado por la mayoría china Han. En este artículotratamos de observar y analizar cómo los austronesios deFormosa, que poseen un estatus de autóctonos desde 1994,desvían y recuperan las prácticas deportivas en el cuadrodel servicio público educativo -aquí asumimos que deportey educación forman parte del bien común- con el fin denegociar su posición en el seno del Estado taiwanés yhacer frente a las políticas asimiladoras del poder central.¿Cómo se han estructurado históricamente lasrelaciones de fuerza y de dominio entre las poblaciones austronesias deTaiwán y las autoridades centrales, principalmente através del deporte? ¿Qué estereotipos morales yfísicos que caracterizan negativamente a los atletasautóctonos se han convertido en mecanismos dereivindación? ¿Cómo la reapropiación deldeporte por los Autóctonos es una forma de ascenso al biencomún y un vector de la reproducción de las sociedadesaustronesias en el seno del espacio público en el cual seencuentran marginalizadas?
