Résumé
Le premier ouvrage de Saba Mahmood, Politics of Piety..., dont la traduction française est parue aux éditions La Découverte en septembre 2009, se veut un effort de décentrement. En s’intéressant à l’implication des femmes à l’intérieur du mouvement islamique, Saba Mahmood amorce une vaste réflexion sur les concepts qui balisent notre compréhension de l’islam, de l’éthique et du politique. L’objectif? Ébrécher le cadre normatif à travers lequel l’action féministe, la résistance et la liberté sont actuellement envisagées ; et donner un sens réellement anthropologique à la notion d’agencéité (agency).

Abstract
Saba Mahmood’s Politics of Piety... is a decentering project. This study of women participation in the Islamic movement addresses crucial questions regarding the concepts that govern our understanding of Islam, ethics and politics. The point of doing so is to question the normative lenses through which feminist praxis, resistance and freedom are approached today. But it also allows her to rethink the notion of agency in a resolutely anthropological perspective. A French translation of the book has been published by La Découverte in September 2009.

Resumen
El primer libro de Saba Mahmood, Politics of Piety..., cuya traducción en francés fue publicada por las ediciones La Decouverte en septiembre 2009, es un esfuerzo de descentramiento. Interesada en la implicación de las mujeres dentro del movimiento islámico, Saba Mahmood inicia una vasta reflexión sobre los conceptos que balizan nuestra comprensión del Islam, de la ética y de lo político. ¿El objetivo? Mellar el cuadro normativo a través del cual la acción feminista, la resistencia y la libertad son actualmente consideradas ; y dar un sentido realmente antropológico a la noción de agenceidad (agency).
