Résumé
Un récent colloque en l’honneur de Bernard Saladin d’Anglure abordait les questions relatives à la famille, à l’enfance et aux spécificités de chaque sexe. Ces thèmes m’ont incitée à examiner spécifiquement la notion pentecôtiste de « renaissance » pour aborder le rôle que joue la chrétienté, en particulier le pentecôtisme, dans la constitution de la communauté inuit contemporaine de Qikiqtarjuaq. L’examen des rituels permettant la transformation identitaire et l’adoption d’une identité chrétienne renouvelée montre que chez les Inuit, transformation religieuse et restauration sociale sont étroitement intriquées. Cette étude de cas ethnographique révèle que l’intégration de nouveaux éléments du pentecôtisme à la société inuit peut être comprise comme un processus d’adaptation dynamique en continuité avec la culture autochtone.

Abstract
The theme of a recent symposium in honor of Bernard Saladin d’Anglure focused on issues of family, childhood, and gender. This inspired me to specifically look at the Pentecostal notion of being ‘reborn’ as my focus to work on the relevance of Christianity and specifically Pentecostalism for the constitution of the contemporary Inuit community of Qikiqtarjuaq. Examining the process of a Pentecostal transformation of an “old self” into a “new self,” or “reborn Christian,” shows that among Inuit religious transformation and social restoration are closely interconnected. This ethnographic case study shows that the integration of the new Pentecostal elements into Inuit society can be understood as a process of a dynamic continuity that is marked by the integration of new elements into Inuit lifeways – as a process of indigenization.

Resumen
Une reciente coloquio en honor de Bernard Saladin d’Anglure abordó las cuestiones relacionadas con la familia, la infancia y las especificidades de cada sexo. Esos temas me han incitado a examinar específicamente la noción pentecostista del «renacimiento» para abordar el rol que juega la cristiandad, en particular el pentecostismo, en la constitución de la comunidad inuit contemporánea de Qikiqtarjuaq. El análisis de los rituales que permiten la transformación identitaria y la adopción de una identidad cristiana renovada demuestra que entre los inuit, transformación religiosa y restauración social están estrechamente relacionadas. Este estudio de caso etnográfico muestra que la integración de nuevos elementos del pentecostismo en la sociedad inuit puede comprenderse como un proceso de adaptación dinámica en continuidad con la cultura autóctona.
