La fin des Yougoslaves ou l’ethnicité toujours recommencée The End of the Yugoslav or the Never Ending Process of Ethnicity Building

Résumé

L’article tend à montrer comment les citoyens de Yougoslavie qui jouaient, notamment à travers la nomenclature utilisée dans les recensements, le jeu de la mixité, ont été les premières victimes du processus d’éclatement du pays, qui a rétabli la patrilinéarité comme unique principe d’identification collective. À travers l’échec de la conception austro-marxiste qui sous-tendait la Fédération yougoslave, c’est le concept même de nationalité, en tant que projection légitime de l’ethnicité, qui est mise en question par les redéfinitions spatiales et politiques de la péninsule balkanique et plus généralement de l’Europe centrale et orientale. Les diverses déclinaisons de la notion de minorité (« droit des minorités », « protection des minorités ») ne font qu’entériner dans le nouvel ordre mondial les apories du principe des nationalités.

Abstract

This article shows how Yugoslavia’s citizens who accepted the idea of mixing, notably through the nomenclature used in the census, have been the first victims of the process leading to the country’s collapse, process which restored patrilinearity as the unique principle of collective identification. Through the failure of the austro-marxist conception underlying the Yugoslav Federation, the concept of nationality itself, as a legitimate projection of ethnicity, is put under question by the spatial and political redefinitions of the Balkan peninsula, and more broadly of the Central and Eastern Europe. The diverse acceptations of the notion of minority (“minority rights”, “protection of minorities”) are only confirming the paradoxes of the principle of nationalities within the New World Order.
