La vis comica de Plaute de Jean-Pierre Ronfard : une adaptation libre et fidèle

Résumé

La vis comica de Plaute, traduite et mise en scène par Jean-Pierre Ronfard, est une adaptation originale du Curculio (Le charançon) de Plaute. Au lieu de se limiter à la simple représentation d’une comédie, Ronfard veut aussi expliquer le génie comique du poète latin dans le cadre inusité d’un spectacle triptyque : d’abord la présentation en format réduit d’une comédie latine, ensuite l’adaptation proprement dite du Curculio, et enfin, en guise d’épilogue, une scène du Miles Gloriosus (Le soldat fanfaron). Abstraction faite du cadre, l’examen des textes montre que, si l’adaptation est généralement fidèle, les libertés prises dans la traduction demeurent très plautiniennes.

Abstract

The Vis comica de Plaute, translated in french and staged by Jean-Pierre Ronfard, affords an inventive adaptation of the Curculio (The Weevil) of Plautus. Instead of representing a single comedy, Ronfard intends as well to show the comic spirit of the latin poet by means of an unusual play: first, the small size staging of a latin comedy, secondly, the genuine adaptation of the whole Curculio, and finally, as an epilogue, a scene of the Miles Gloriosus (The Braggart Captain). Despite the context, a comparative reading of the texts reveals that the adaptation not only generally corresponds to the original, but that also the liberties taken in the translation are in fact highly Plautian.
